Class Descriptions
Muay Thai
Muay thai is the renowned striking art of 8 limbs! You will train to defend yourself against an opponent using a variety of punches, elbows, knees, kicks, sweeps, and throws. This art will develop your balance, patience, and mental fortitude as we complete a mix of drilling and sparring.
Open Mat
Open mat is non-instruction class time that can be used for drilling or sparring. Members of other gyms are welcome with no mat fee. We do have a TV available if you want to watch an instructional and drill.
Competition No Gi Class
This class is based on preparing competitors for their next tournament. This class focuses on competition-oriented drilling, situational sparring, and both submission only and point based sparring. This is a tough class meant to refine your competition game plan and build your conditioning and mental toughness.
Gi Classes
Our gi classes begin with a brief warm up to get your body moving, such as grip fighting. We then move to the instructional period of class for approximately 30-45 minutes. Each month we focus on a specific topic; as the month goes on, we go deeper into an advanced understanding of the topic. This is a blend of traditional self defense and modern sport jiu jitsu.
Adult No Gi
Class will begin with a brief warm up such as pummeling or guard passing. We then move to the instructional portion of the class for 30-45 minutes. Each month we focus on a specific topic; we generally have a special emphasis on wrestling and leg locks for competition purposes. We teach under a variety of rule sets, including EBI overtime, IBJJF, ADCC, and sub only.
Kids Classes
We offer both gi and no gi classes for kids. These classes are a mix of the following:
- Warm ups that will teach them how to move their body; such as front/back rolls, shrimping, bear crawls, and break falls
- Educational Games: learning how to sprawl, playing judo tag, and a variety of games that teach them how to use their BJJ skills in a fun way
- Instructional Time: Our instructors generally focus on one topic each month so that our students have enough time to learn a specific position before moving on.
- Situational Drilling: This helps to bridge the gap between drilling and sparring. Students will spar from a specific position and with a specific goal in mind, such as passing the guard or escaping from back control
These classes are one hour long, and are generally recommended for ages 5-14. Monday and Wednesday are gi classes, Friday is a blend of no gi and muay thai.
